Annual Calgary PHC Camping TripCalgary Parrot Head Club - Lounge Chair Guy

Loralyne is going to be booking spots, and wants to hear from the campers as to whether they are happy with the location that we have had the last few years. Please email her at

. She does need to book these spots soon, so she wants to know who would like to go, and at what location.

This is a wilderness area, but equipped with a water pump, outhouses, and free firewood. The road is paved up to Waiporous village, then gravel (but still trailer-friendly) for the latter half of Highway 40 towards the campground.

So some on out, and you too can join the Too-Much-Phun club!

For those with GPS: Position is "11 U 637643 5695862". (But don't pitch your tent at this exact position as it's smack-dab in the middle of a road!)

For those without GPS: Just use map below, but don't confuse this campground with the Waiporous Campground; North Ghost Campground is further upstream!

Friday July 24 thru Sunday July 26, 2009:

Camping Trip!

North Ghost River Wilderness Campground
95 km northwest of Calgary on Highway 40.

We like it so much, we're heading there again... July 24, 25, and 26 in the North Ghost Provincial Recreation Area -- see the map below. Flip-flops and T-shirts are the dress code. Cheeseburgers on the barbee. Lawn chairs in the river, and bocci-ball in the woods.

This is a wilderness area, but equipped with a water pump, outhouses, and free firewood. The road is paved up to Waiporous village, then gravel (but still trailer-friendly) for the latter half of Highway 40 towards the campground. Last year we gathered around the campfire and listened to JB on Sirius Radio, thanks to Gord and Cindy. Hopefully we'll be dancing under the stars one more time.

Margaritaville Las VegasFins and Boat-Drinks in Las Vegas

Buffett has just announced 2 shows in Vegas this fall – the first being October 18th and the 2nd being Saturday, October 25th, 2008. There are still no closer venues. Last year we had 2 great groups go from Calgary on different weekends. So far, we have a sizeable group going, and October 18th is the target concert date for the group.

Update 11-May-2008: As of this writing, tickets are available through TicketMaster now.

Update (April 25, 2008):

If you show your membership card at the Margaritavilles in Key West, New Orleans & Vegas, as a Club member you receive a 10% discount. (Vida mentions these 3 as they are the ones that have been mentioned on the message board.) This probably applies in the Caribbean locations as well. We are sure that if you were to whip out your membership card at other locations the 10% will apply. This is only for merchandise in the store, not food or drink.

If anyone is traveling in the next little while where there are Margaritavilles – and you are granted the 10% discount (or not) please let Vida know. This apparently is “not in stone” – but people have been granted the 10% discount. For anyone who has been to a Margaritaville location – you know how easy it is to blow $200 bucks on merchandise (well, that’s $20 in your pocket.)

Yet another reason to stay or become a proud card-carrying Calgary PHC member!……

For those Parrot Heads who like to take their phun outside, this weekend is for you. Our destination again is the North Ghost Provincial Recreation Area, approximately 1.5 hours northwest of Calgary on the Forestry Trunk Road. For those of you who like to haul the creature comforts of home, the gravel road is fairly trailer-friendly.

This year we will be wearing parrot attire (leis, grass skirts, etc.), but no flip-flops. Plus, pants (as opposed to shorts) are recommended to avoid being scratched by bushes. We will clean the river banks and reconvene at the Hose-and-Hound for lunch and beverages.
